Freakin' Obsessed Friday: Instagram Edition

When I found out there was Instagram for Android, I got really happy.  I've been using it, but not frequently.  Just to capture moments when I remember to. :)  The very first time I used it, I got discouraged because it looked a little complicated.  But now that I've been using it for a few weeks, I like it a lot.  Here are four of my most recent Instagrams!  (btw, my user name is catywaterfield if you'd like to follow along.)
  1. My new short hair.  My mom says I look like Liza Minnelli in this picture.  I'll take it.
  2. My first coffee interview.  I think I'm going to go write that "other big blog post" now. ;)
  3. My dark chocolate peanut butter brownies.  I had the munchies for something sweet this week, so I made an old favorite.  So good!
  4. My short hair with headbands.  When I had short hair last year, my favorite thing to do with it once it grew out just enough, was to wear it with headbands.  Continuing the tradition, and looking cute doing it!

Freakin' Obsessed Friday

  1. Desperate Housewives.  This is my favorite show.  They are currently in their last season, and there's only 4 episodes left, including the finale.  So I thought I'd go back and refresh my memory on the other seasons via Netflix before it all goes away.  I'm just falling in love all over again.
  2. My little scooter craft.  I haven't written a post about this yet, but I will.
  3. The latest KK book.  The Kingdom Keepers are my favorite books.  The latest one, Shell Game, is coming out on Tuesday, and it just so happens it is being delivered to my door!  I'm super excited to read it.
  4. Tumblr.  I've had a Tumblr for a while, and over the last few weeks, have just not been very into it.  I was subscribed to a blog that posted lots of pictures everyday.  At first, I really enjoyed them, because she posts very lovely things, but she just posted so many darn many of them!  It got to the point where I'd have to go through 30 pages to get caught up every time I logged on.  So I got smart and stopped following that blog, and now I check Tumblr everyday again.

Freakin' Obsessed Friday

  1. Pinterest.  Or as Taylor from The Lumberjack's Wife says, The Pinterest.  I had Pinterest for a few weeks before it got super popular, but didn't really use it much.  After a while, I got the hang of it, and now I have to check it everyday!
  2. McDonald's Shamrock Shake.  Holy cow, this thing is good!  Justin found a recipe for it so that hopefully we can make it after March when McDonald's takes it away.  Get yours before the 31!
  3. GCB.  This is a new show on ABC that comes on Sundays at 10 pm.  I really like it so far and am getting excited to see where it goes.  I really think that one lady's husband is gay.  But we're only two episodes into the show, so we'll see!
  4. Songs from A Goofy Movie.  Specifically Stand Out, the song that Max sings in the opening scene at the assembly.  I found the full version some time ago on YouTube and am obsessed with it.  I just can't stop listening to it.  Tevin Campbell is amazing as Powerline. :)

Freakin' Obsessed Friday

  1. Spring is coming!  Bonnie and I spotted one of the first tell-tales of Spring while on a walk, little white flowers!  The first day of Spring is the 20, which isn't too far away!  Very exciting.  Except for hubby, he has bad allergies. :(
  2. Fresh Take breading.  I love this stuff.  It really makes chicken and pork chops so dang flavorful!  I had just discovered the recipe for the Crispy Cheddar Chicken, and within the same week, saw the commercial for this breading.  It does all the work for me!
  3. My dragonfly mug.  My mom gave this to me as part of set of things from Cracker Barrel, which included the mug, a plate, and a kitchen towel, all of which have the same yellow and brown dragonfly design.  I love it and drink out of it often.
  4. Ninth Street.  Can I just say that I love that this picture is unfocused?  I love it.  Justin and I live less than 5 minutes from Ninth Street in Durham, and I take any chance I get to go there.  It's a short street, maybe two or three blocks, but there's such neat stuff on it!  Especially Vaguely Reminiscent and Francesca's.

Props also go to the Retro Camera app for Android for the already-squared and matted pics this week!  I think it looks nicer, plus it's my own photographs, so no copyright stuff to worry about. ;)

Freakin' Obsessed Friday

  1. "Ray Charles," by Chiddy Bang.  I heard this song on the radio some weeks ago and really loved it, and then didn't hear it again for a long time.  This week, I heard it more than once on the radio, and now I can't stop listening to it!
  2. Handcent.  This is an alternate text messaging service for Android.  My favorite thing about it is how customizable it is!  You can finally change the color of the text bubbles (not to mention the background of the text window, and the font)!  Plus, the message comes up even if your phone is asleep, so you don't have to slide the arrow and wake up your phone to reply to a text.  SO handy.
  3. Psych.  I've heard about this show for a while, but never watched it.  I haven't had cable for almost two years, so when a show comes on anything but a broadcast channel, I can't see it til sometime later, when it's on the Internet or Netflix.  Psych is on Netflix, and when I found that out, I started watching it.  I love this show!  I love the humor and the friendship between Gus and Shawn.  And also pineapples.
  4. Crafting.  The reason I haven't written much this week is because I've been a busy crafting bee!  I had several projects that I had been putting off for various reasons, and I really wanted to get some of them done!  Most of them are for my mom, so I can give them to her the next time I see her.  I'll make a post about that later.

Freakin' Obsessed Friday

  1. Zachary Quinto's Spock.  Last week, I admitted my love for Michael Crawford's Phantom.  This week, I'm admitting my love for Spock.  The new Spock, from J.J. Abram's Star Trek.  I hadn't sat down and watched the movie in a while and had an itch to last weekend, so I did, and promptly remembered why I love Spock in that movie!  I love to hear him talk, and to see his human side flair every now and then.  Yet another fictional love of mine.
  2. My new shelf and painting in my living room.  I will post the details of this shelf and artwork in another post later, but just know that this space was barren and sad, and now it isn't!  And that makes me happy!
  3. The lack of winter weather.  Yes, I'm going to be that guy.  You'll notice in my About Me page, that I list Fall as my favorite season.  This is true, beyond measure, let me assure you.  However, there is a big difference between Fall and Winter, and that difference is about twenty degrees!  I like cool weather, not cold weather.  I like to layer, not bundle.  So yes, despite the fact that it's February, I am in love with this warm weather, and I hope it continues!
  4. Pandora radio.  Specifically, this week I'm into Showtunes Radio and Today's Hits Radio.  When we purchased our new car back in November, it came with three free months of XM Radio.  And we have enjoyed it!  The stations I listen to the most are 90s on 9, XM Hits on 2, and the 2K station.  Since we are coming to the point where we have to say goodbye to XM (March 1 is our cutoff), I was relieved to find some stations on Pandora that play that same music that I'll be without come March.  Today's Hits is great, because it plays the exact same songs as XM, and it's free!  4 for Pandora, you go, Pandora.

Freakin' Obsessed Friday

I've seen lots of blogs have a day-dedicated post, like Oh Amanda's Top Ten Tuesday, or A Hopeless Notebook's Wednesday Wishlist.  Several other blogs have a scheduled post every week on the same day, usually under a cute name that starts with the same letter as the day of the week they blog on.

And for as long as I've seen them, I've wanted to do one.  I've been thinking about what day or topic I could blog on for a long time, and there were certain criteria I knew I needed to follow.  First, the name.  Letters needed to be the same, and it needed to be a day that I knew I could probably be reliable to blog on every week.  Plus, the content and subject matter needed to also be something I could blog about every week that wouldn't always be the same thing.

So, after some thought, I decided to do something called Freakin' Obsessed Friday.  Every Friday, I'll write about some things (can't decide if I'm going to do 4 or 5 yet, since they both start with F) that I'm currently obsessing over.

Here are some reasons why this is going to work: I get obsessed with things pretty easily.  And every week, my focus turns to something else for me to obsess over.  I generally obsess over the same things, like music or photography or movies or TV shows.  But every week, it's a different song/artist, a new photography technique, or a new TV show or movie.  And even beyond that, I may be obsessed with something completely out of left field, like a phone app or my mom's meatloaf.  Anything is possible!

I'm excited to do this.  I really want this to work.  I want to be able to look back on these several weeks from now and smile about what I was obsessed with "back then."  So, without further ado, let's start this mess!

  1. Paul Robeson's Old Man River.  This video has been been on repeat for me for the last couple of days.  Paul Robeson performed Old Man River in the musical Show Boat.  I heard him singing his version (there are many out there, including one by Judy Garland) during a special on musicals a couple of years back.  I immediately wanted to hear the rest of it, and ever since I did hear it, I haven't stopped loving it.  If you're not crying with him by the end of that video, there is something wrong.
  2. My new Nook Tablet.  I bought my tablet on February 2 of this year.  It wasn't a completely spontaneous decision.  I knew I was going to give my mom my laptop, since hers is crap, and that I would need something to take the place of it.  I pretty much knew I wanted a tablet.  Justin got his iPad 2 when it came out last year, and I was very taken with it.  It's such a nice middle ground between a phone and a computer.  It's bigger than a phone, but it's not as cumbersome as a computer, not to mention a better battery life.  So far, I love it.  I wish more YouTube videos were available on mobile, but that's really my only complaint.
  3. Michael Crawford as the Phantom.  I'm going to admit something.  I have a serious thing for the Phantom.  Like, I daydream about him.  But not just any version of the Phantom.  It has to be Michael Crawford, or it's no good.  Crawford's voice, first of all, is perfect.  Not just in terms of the Phantom, but in general.  I could listen to him read the dictionary.  And boy, does he make one sexy as hell Phantom!  Sometimes, I listen to the Showtunes station on Pandora, and he comes on a lot.  It's like Pandora knows me.  Just don't get me started on Music of the Night, or we'll be here forever.
  4. 30 Rock.  I didn't get into this show until just recently.  I'd heard about it for a while, but had never watched it.  One day, I found it on Netflix, and watched the whole series.  It was then that I knew it was love.  I love Jack, and I want to be Liz when I grow up.  I love the humor, particularly in the earlier seasons.  And who doesn't love Frank's new hat in every episode?  Genius.  This week at work, I remembered that I hadn't seen the most recent episode, so I watched it when I went to lunch on the computer.  It reminded me of why I love this show, and I found myself laughing out loud several times.  Now I'm re-obsessed.  Like I didn't already love Thursday nights!
